Week 13 - Waiting on a Miracle

Today Zach had a bronchoscopy, which is a procedure done in the OR under sedation to look down his airway and into his lungs to determine why he is unable to get off the ventilator.  They discovered that he has a bronchomalasia which is a narrowing of the breathing tube going into his left lung.  Whenever he gets upset and cries it changes the pressure in the airway and that tube closes off.  The Dr put a stent in the tube to hold it open until it can grow bigger.  Hopefully this will help him to get off the ventilator. He tolerated the procedure well and tonight they will be slowly decreasing his sedation and letting him try to breathe more and more on his own. The plan is to try again to take him off the ventilator either tomorrow  or Wednesday.  Please pray that he stays calm and breathes easily on his own as they gradually lower the amount of work that the ventilator is doing.

We also decided to set up a site for donations.  We are raising money to pay for the necessary care for Zachary and his brothers.  We are blessed with good insurance, but it is weird what it doesn't cover. Whatever is not needed for these areas will be given to another family with a heart baby at PCH or to a heart organization like Mended Little Hearts.

  2. Thank you for trying. I am not sure what may be the problem. I saw three other people were able to successfully donate tonight. If it does not work tomorrow, email me directly and we can give you our mailing address.
