The Big One

Instead of being discharged today Zach is scheduled for the second surgery time slot tomorrow with Dr. Nigro.
The doctors wanted Zachary's blood oxygenation levels to be above 70 consistently before he returned home. Since Zach's sats did not break above 70 enough the doctors decided to set up a time for Zachary's next heart surgery. They actually bumped the patient from tomorrow afternoon's procedure so that Zachary could get on the schedule. His heart is ready for the procedure; he does not have any infections at this time so it would be best to do the procedure now.
When I came to the hospital after work there was a time that he got really mad and his blood oxygenation levels were in the low 50s for a while.  The docs bumped up the oxygen through the nose cannula and once he calmed down his sats slowly came back up.
He could go back to the operating room as early as 11 or as late as 3pm. If the first case takes too long, Zach will not have surgery tomorrow but will be rescheduled to sometime next week.

Tonight Becky went home to be with the older boys and put them to bed. Immediately prior to bed, we FaceTimed.

Here is a picture of Josiah talking to Zachary and I. The older boys love their little brother.
How are we doing?
Well, there are range of emotions that are going through right now. Sometimes we are excited to be finally at this next heart surgery. We know that this will be very beneficial for him but on the same token we know this is kind of a risky surgery.
We know that for Zachary to get better he is going to have to hurt for a while. We are forcing Zach to go through pain so that he comes out stronger on the other side. I'm not sure who's going to feel more pain Zach or Becky and I as parents. It sure is tough as a parent seing your child suffer.
We know that we are going to have to put our lives on hold for a little bit until he recovers. We have already made plans and changed them due to the surgery.
Prayer Requests
- Peace
- wisdom and guidance for all parties involved tomorrow.
- sleep for us tonight.

God is good.
