One year ago today I was giving birth to Zachary Caleb Getz. There were so many unknowns for him when he was born. Was he even viable outside the womb when born? Would his heart be ok? How would he do at the hospital? Would he get an infection that could overwhelm his fragile body?
Despite all of the aforementioned unknowns, we named our third son Zachary to remind him (and more importantly, us) that God remembers us. We wanted to remember what we do know is that God has not abandoned us; He has not ignored our prayers. He loves us and has a very specific plan for us.
Well, we have made it a year. WOW!! What a year. We are so blessed and thankful to have Zachary still here with us today. After more than 9 major surgeries and countless hospital days he is home on his 1 year birthday. We are so thankful for all the support and prayer over this past year. Words don't do justice for how thankful we are to everyone.
We love you SO very much.
Update Written 12/11/14:
Zach is back at the hospital. The docs are worried about the fluid buildup in his pleural cavity and around his heart. It is causing him to be in respiratory distress. Doctors have ruled out a couple things, including infection and a collapsed lung. We believe it is probably the same fluid building up again, which means chest tube and IV again, for the third time.
Becky took Zachary in to a PCH Urgent Care near our house to get an x-ray and determined that there was a significant change from the x-ray taken the day before. They told her they would need to go to PCH to be admitted. They went by ambulance and spent the majority of the night in the ER due a lack of bed space on the CVICU floor. They finally got up to a room around 330am and then Zachary had an x-ray at 5.
Tomorrow's plan will most likely be to place another chest tube and IV line.
Please pray we are able to figure out why he keeps building this fluid up and for strength and wisdom for decisions. Pray for our other two boys that they will feel peace and comfort during this crazy time especially coming into this Christmas season.
Thank you
Hope is Alive!
