There is another option that as a technologist peaks my interest. I heard of the story where a 7 year old kid received a bionic arm styled like Iron Man. Wouldn't it be cool to get Zachary bionic thumbs?
Most of us take our thumbs for granted. Try to pick up your cup at lunch without thumbs. Try to give a thumbs up/down without a thumb. We don't want to have Zachary resort to other gestures when he is older.
Also, the High Five would be more appropriately called the High Four.
He would never be able to truly and accurately reflect the Fonz, if that was his costume choice for Halloween.
We are in the process to try both routes with the first contact will be the medical team at John Hopkins regarding thumb transplants. They have been the pioneers in transplants for more than heart and
The docs would try to find a match for Zachary based on blood type, skin color and possibly gender.
I guess you could say we are having a thumb drive!
When he gets his thumbs, he could get a shirt that says "Thumb body saved my life!"
Right now, I am trying to convince Becky to get a shirt with his hand print titled "Got Thumbs?"
Thank you all for your prayers and support and by the way, if you believe this, check your calendar!
Thank you for enjoying this satire.
Awesome post, David -- 2 thumbs up! ;)

ReplyDeleteSo its April Fool's Day...is all of this true? It sure is funny & maybe you have discovered a hidden talent thru all of this...ever think of writing a book "Hospital Humor" & getting $ for it? Seriously, you do a great job of seeing the bright side & having a cheerful heart even in a tough situation. It's amazing how God can carry us thru all things! Definitely let us know if you end up at John Hopkins-its 1 hr. from us & we will thumb our way to you! Our prayers are with you all. Lots of hugs. Uncle Tony & Aunt Gale
ReplyDeleteThis was written as satirical. Written to bring a smile and not much else. Thank you Uncle Tony and Aunt Gale! God is Good! I do think Zach's tagline should be 'Got Thumbs?' Of all the medical issues that we have had to focus on, his thumbs never came up. To even be discussing them, is a relief.
