Day 1 – He is Here!
Holy Cow it is bright out here! |
Becky Holding Zachary for a second. |
Blowing Bubbles |
Becky delivered Zachary at 12:44pm yesterday at Scottsdale Shea
Hospital. We were unable to hold him
immediately after birth due to his blue color.
The doctors were able to get his Oxygen blood levels (when low, babies
turn blue) up but not until he arrived at the NICU. They then performed several tests on the
heart, brain, stomach and kidneys.
Becky Holding Zachary |
The heart is performing like the doctors have predicted when
performing the heart ultrasound en utero with one exception. They are not going to put Zachary on prostaglandin
because the pressure is good for the time being from the heart to the
lungs. The first surgery on the heart
will be to create slight stenosis or narrowing of the pulmonary artery so that
the lungs do not have blood flow that is too high.
The brain is normal and nothing came up on the
ultrasound. The kidneys as well appear
to be working.
Good evening! |
Zachary still has the double bubble. He will have surgery soon to fix this
operation. We won’t know the extent of
the atresia until they begin the surgery.
He also has an imperforate anus.
Basically it means that it appears that the opening of the anus was
never created. They will most likely fix
this as well when they look at the double bubble.
Last night, Becky and I were able to hold Zachary for several
hours as the evening wound down.
There were several times that Zachary held Becky’s finger for several minutes. Wow that is cool. We even got a picture of his eyes!!!
God gives us hope that not only will he come out of this
just fine but that Zachary will be a huge blessing to others. We have already seen a huge impact that he
has had on those around us. We are so
thankful for everyone who is praying for us.
Thank you God for bringing Zachary into our lives. Thank you for all that you do for us. We pray that he will glorify you.
Continued prayers are being sent.
