Week 14 - THIS IS SO GOOD! / NICU-itis

Some key terms are needed for this post:
Intubation - when a person has a flexible tube placed in his airway so that a ventilator can either assist with the breathing or breathe for the person
Extubation - Taking the tube out of the trachea.
Nasal Cannula - Connected to a ventilator to provide additional oxygen as needed.

Zachary was intubated for the surgery because of the anesthesia.  He has been successfully extubated.  He still has a nasal canula connected to the ventilator that can be turned up or down depending on his oxygen needs at the time.

Every day he seems to be improving.  We never knew if he would make it thus far... AND HE HAS!!!!!

We are so relieved and thankful!  God is Good!

Also, please pray for Becky and me.  We are starting to really feel the effects of this long journey.  Becky in particular has been having mild panic attacks and can be depressed sometimes.  For those of you that know Bec, she reminds me of sunshine; generally happy, life is good outlook.  Please pray specifically for her to feel normal (and sleep).

Thank you to everyone who has donated.  We are amazed at the generosity of those around us.

Here are some pics of the Zach man.
Zach with the breathing tube (intubated).

Zach off the breathing tube and on the nasal cannula.

Becky holds him for the first time after the surgery (2.5 weeks after surgery)

Becky holds Zachary.

Zachary sleeps in mama's arms.

My first time to hold him post surgery (3 weeks).

  1. Praising God with you for this wonderful report. Every encouraging report brings renewed hope. We know that this is certainly a tough time for all. Be encouraged that many are praying for Zach, mom and dad. Take heart that He knows and He cares for Zach and has a wonderful plan that He is orchestrating even through all of this. I will send up specific prayers for Becky. Asking our Heavenly Father to give her a peace and comfort from above and to remove the dark clouds that my come her way.
1 Peter 5:7~~Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.

    1. Thank you for praying! God is in control and His ways are not our ways. It is amazing that there are many people praying for Zach and us that we have never met. The Body of Christ is incredible and we are in awe of God's plan and design.

  2. Hi there,
My name is Michelle Clifford and your mother reached out to me at Bible study at Scottsdale Bible Church and shared you story with me and the brave journey you have been on with Zach and with God. Your little man is one tough little guy and the testimony that your family is sharing through your faith and strength points beautifully to God. God can do beautiful work in our hearts and the hearts of those around us when we face hard seasons of life and God is doing that exact thing in your families life. My husband and I had a daughter that was really sick and later passed and during the course of her life we lived at PCH for 5 1/2 months. Looking back it is amazing the gift it was to see God's hand working so actively and powerfully in our life and the life of others. Seasons like this can be so wearing but also so powerful in truly discovering a deep dependence on God and can give one such a clear perspective on life and priorities. Your family is so beautiful and God has entrusted you all with a powerful story and testimony!!
Our daughter's blog was http://ryanlynn.blogspot.com if you want to check it out. Also, if you ever want anyone to pray with are talk with during this season, my husband Jared and I would love to support or be there for you both in any way.
    My email is mclifford@scottsdalebible.com.
    With love,
    Michelle Clifford
