Week 16 - The Post You Have All Been Waiting for!!!

Zachary had the airway scope performed on Monday to look at the airway stint.  The worry is that tissue will start to grow into the stint and will make the airway smaller instead of bigger.  The images from the scope looked good so the docs are going to leave it in for another 3 weeks.  There is little to no tissue growing around the stint.

Today (Wednesday), we had the second family cares meeting.  This meeting included a several key doctors that are involved in his care.  The main goal was to set a date for discharge.  Like, when we go to leave the hospital, we will take Zachary and put him in the car to go hom, discharge...

So we asked what they had in mind for a timeline.  (Remember that we talked to someone on the medical staff last week and they were expecting about 6 weeks left.) Well, the docs want him to be home next week.  Ha! That is AWESOME!!

God gave us something that we did not expect.  He gave us the gift of taking Zachary home.

We have been praying for this for a long time now.  When we first heard the date, we were stunned.  We were excited to be discussing this good news.  We didn't know if we would even be able to take him home.

Then we realized that the care of Zachary will shift from the nurses to us.  Oh.  OK.  We can do this.

We have these areas we are working on now:

  •  Preparing the house for Zachary and the medical equipment.
  • Taking over more and more of his care (like placing an NG tube for feedings; changing his Ostomy bag; checking his pulse ox; etc)
  • Purchasing items that we will need here at home (like a video baby monitor)
Thank you to those that have brought us a meal.  That has been most helpful.  We have been trying to reach outside of our adult Bible study class at church as they have been bearing the brunt of the meals.  If you want to help out by bringing a meal, please contact me directly.  (I added a Contact Us form when you view the blog on a computer and not a mobile device.)
I will send you the link to our meal schedule.

Here is a picture of Zachary when he was not even a day old.

Here is a pic of tonight

He was born at 4 lbs 13 oz and is now 9lbs 14 oz.   Yes!!
