The Room Next Door

Becky and I discovered a rule at PCH.  The rule is rarely broken and typically only visible if it happens to you or you are an experienced CVICU parent.  We are blessed at PCH by having our own room.  I dont believe that they have ever put two patients on the CV floor in the same room.  But still, it is nice to be in our own room.
The rule goes something like this: If the medical team is spending a lot of time in your room, it is because they are having to make a lot of decisions quickly to intervene.  The doctors and staff are very busy, but if you are barely clinging on to life, they will spend a lot of time in your room.  When Zachary had his first heart surgery, the doctors said that they camped out in his room.
When we returned to the ED and then were admitted to the CV floor, the docs would come in and determine the necessary medical remedies and then leave to go to the next patient.  We found out quickly that it was really good the docs would not spend time in our room.  We even joked to them that we liked not seeing them; I mean we like them as individuals, just not at their place of employment.
This current hospital stay, we noticed that the docs are spending A LOT of time in the room next door.  Yesterday, he had a really cool banner announcing to all that passed his room of his third birthday. Tonight, we find out that the three year old has died...

Yes, I gave my boys an extra hug tonight.

I think God was reminding me this morning of the future blessing that is to come.  God is good!

1 Peter 1:3-9

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. In this you rejoice, though now for a little while, if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials, so that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ. 8 Though you have not seen him, you love him. Though you do not now see him, you believe in him and rejoice with joy that is inexpressible and filled with glory, obtaining the outcome of your faith, the salvation of your souls.
