Adivan or bust!

We are 24 hrs post op!  Zachary was a rock star during his surgery yesterday.

Here is the recap...

We arrived at the hospital at 530am.  We signed in and were taken back to the preop room and the nurse ran thru the usual questions (meds, medical history etc).  The operating room scheduler did not have the correct anesthesia doctor down.  Since Zachary is a heart baby, he requires a special anesthesia doc and they had just a regular anesthesia doc scheduled.  She took one look at his chart and said nope not doing his case.  So they had to call the on call cardio anesthesia doc. He came pretty quick and had dealt with Zachary in the past so he was at least familiar with him.  This delayed Zachary's case an hour.  The anesthesiologist then took two hours just to place all his IV lines.  They finally got started on the surgery at 10 am.

We received brief, I mean extremely brief updates thru out the day that he was doing fine.   They finally came out around 5pm and said they were about two more hours from being done.  Ugh, two more hours.  "Ok, we can do this we've been here since 530 what's two more hours!" They came out about two hours later and brought us back to the consult room to chat about what they did during the surgery.   We waited about 30 more min before his surgeon came out.

He... was... exhausted...

The surgery went well.  Zachary had a ton of scar tissue from his previous GI surgeries last year which made things more difficult.  It was 11 hrs from when they took him back that morning and they finally let us back to see him.  You would think after all the surgeries he's had it would be less heart breaking to see my baby in so much pain and with so many wires but nope, it is just as hard every time.

He had a pretty rough time last night.  His saturation levels dipped into the 30s a few times and they had to bag him to breathe.   (Think mouth to mouth CPR only with one of these.)

He is in so much pain it is hard to control it.  We arrived this morning and he was miserable by mid afternoon we finally got his pain under control.  He finally got his favorite drug to help calm him, Adivan!  It calmed him and he's been able to sleep most of the day.
David and I went home late this afternoon and spent time with Micah and Josiah and had dinner as a family.
We are now back at the hospital to see his night nurse and tuck him in for the evening.   This is always the hardest part not being able to give snuggles and have him safe at home with our whole family.  He is getting great care at PCH but so hard on my mommy heart.

Please continue to pray his recovery is smooth and his pain level goes down. Pray for strength for David and I as we go back and forth to the hospital.  Pray for the other boys that they will not feel the stress of this and just have fun with whomever may be watching them for the day.

Thank you all for the support.
