Previous Milestones

Two Years.  It has been two years (and a couple days) since we found out that our third baby would be...well, unique...  Our first reaction was of surprise, fear, anger, frustration, all rolled into a lump in our throats.  Our second response was of peace.  God will be with us during this time.  Those first emotions came back frequently, but they were tempered by God's divine peace.

The last two years seem to be a constant roller coaster that doesn't stop.  We sometimes are heading up and all is good. For example...

  • Micah started Kindergarten at Northwest.
  • Zachary came home from the hospital for the first time.
    • and a second, a third, a fourth, fifth...
  • We moved into our current house where we have access to the community pool within a stone's throw of our house.  (Think great pool without any of the maintenance.)
  • When we realize that God is in complete control of Zachary's life.
  • When we get a glimpse of the amount of people praying for us.
And then there are times that we are suddenly jerked around a corner and are speeding rapidly towards the bottom.  For example,
  • When Zachary has to be sent via ambulance to PCH.
  • When Becky and I had that hard conversation with the doctors on whether or not to continue care for Zachary.
  • When Micah and Josiah get on each others' nerves after a long day for Becky and I.
  • When Zachary had his emergency surgeries around day 5 & 7.
  • When we realize that we do not have control over Zachary's life.
I cannot say what will happen in the future for Zachary.  He will always need to be close to his doctors to provide the care he needs.  He may have to have a heart transplant if he outgrows his HLHS heart.  What I can say is that God is with us on the ups and down of the roller coaster known as Zachary's life.  For that, I am thankful.

Prayer request:
Zachary is scheduled for his last GI surgery August 31st at 7am.  What a blessing we are even asking for prayer for this surgery!   Praying it will be a "quick" surgery. Last GI surgery ended up being 11hrs.  Let's pray it isn't that long and he has a smooth and quick recovery!

I leave you with this thought. - God is good no matter your circumstances.

Here is a MUST watch video of Zachary!

Trying to get Zachary to do a funny face:-)
